BCFD helps family who lost home on i-40

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Fire officials say a family of eight lost their home when they lost control of their RV and crashed on I-40 near Carnuel.

They say the RV was their permanent home and that the family was moving to Las Vegas, Nevada.

Commander Michael Chavez called the Red Cross, who are known to help displaced families.

?Much to our surprise they refused to come out,? Chavez said.

The Red Cross says it did refer the family to other groups but they could not help in this situation.
?It?s not within our scope of service to respond to vehicle accidents,? a spokesperson with Red Cross said.

The Bernalillo County Fire Department crews took things upon themselves, fed the family at McDonalds and drove them to Joy Junction for the night.
