Politics Counts: GOP and Florida's I-4 Corridor - Wall Street Journal (blog)

The I-4 crosses the middle of the state, east to west, running through Volusia, Seminole, Orange, Osceola, Polk and Hillsborough counties. And if you want an idea of which direction Florida is going in November, you can follow along the I-4 and get a pretty good sense.

Since 1992 Florida has voted for Democratic presidential candidates twice ? 1996 and 2008 ? and for Republicans in the other campaigns ? 1992, 2000 and 2004. In that period the vote coming out of those I-4 counties has sided with the winner of the state every time.

And if Florida is a swing state and the I-4 is its swing region, then Hillsborough is its most swinging county, so to speak. Since 1992, Hillsborough has sided with the winner of the state every time.
